The Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government on Saturday held the July edition of its re-introduced Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise across all wards in the council. The exercise was aimed at promoting a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment, with strong participation from residents.
The Executive Chairman, Hon. Olalekan Olu Akindipe, was represented by the Vice Chairman and Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Ololade Ashabi Ugbo-Anite. She reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for all residents of Ajeromi-Ifelodun.
As part of efforts to strengthen waste management, the Council Chairman has procured ten new compactors. All councilors and other political office holders were also directed to remain in their respective wards to monitor the exercise.
The Vice Chairman, accompanied by top government officials, monitored compliance from the Council Secretariat to the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway at Mile 2. Five of the newly procured compactors were deployed to that axis to evacuate refuse and clear drainage channels.
Speaking with the press, Hon. Ololade Ashabi said continuous public participation in environmental sanitation is key to preventing flooding and the outbreak of diseases.
She further urged residents to embrace daily cleanliness instead of waiting for the monthly exercise, and called on them to support the council’s efforts beyond the monthly clean-up.
The Vice Chairman also warned shop owners and residents against dumping refuse on roads and in drainages. She noted that henceforth, offenders will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the council’s environmental laws.
