The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development has commended the Executive Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Hon. Olalekan Olu Akindipe, for his outstanding performance and people-centred development initiatives, describing the council’s achievements within one year in office as commendable and reflective of prudent leadership.
The commendation came during the committee’s statutory oversight visit to the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Secretariat on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, where members inspected completed and ongoing projects and reviewed the council’s programmes and activities.
Leading the delegation, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Ganiyu Sanni Okanlawon, representing Kosofe Constituency I, explained that the visit formed part of the constitutional oversight responsibilities of the Lagos State House of Assembly. He stressed that the exercise was designed to promote accountability, transparency and effective service delivery, rather than to fault the activities of the Local Government.
According to Hon. Okanlawon, the inspection enabled the committee to assess how public resources have been utilized, evaluate completed and ongoing projects, and offer recommendations that would further strengthen governance and accelerate development across the council.
Expressing satisfaction with what the committee witnessed, he praised the Executive Chairman for delivering projects that have directly impacted residents, noting that the council had demonstrated clear value for public funds. He urged the Chairman to sustain the pace of development and continue to improve on the achievements already recorded.
Hon. Okanlawon further attributed the council’s impressive performance to the increased allocation from the Federal Government and reaffirmed that the Lagos State Government does not interfere with statutory allocations due to Local Governments, thereby enabling councils to execute meaningful developmental projects.
Responding, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Olalekan Olu Akindipe, thanked the committee for its objective assessment and valuable recommendations. He assured the lawmakers that every observation and suggestion made during the visit would be carefully implemented to improve service delivery and governance.

The council’s Head of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Feyi Oniyide, presented a detailed overview of key infrastructure projects executed by the administration. These include the construction of the 210-metre Umeriro Street in Ward A with modern solar-powered streetlights; the ultra-modern two-storey Akere Primary Health Centre; a new 14-classroom block at Oluwa Nursery and Primary School, Achakpo; road, drainage and streetlight projects at Babani Street, Ajegunle; roads, drainage and a motorable bridge connecting Mokoya and Ajasa Streets; and a modern ICT Centre with a capacity to accommodate 700 students at a time, regarded as one of the largest of its kind in West Africa.
The committee also applauded the administration’s commitment to youth empowerment through business support grants for young entrepreneurs, ₦250,000 scholarship grants for 100 newly admitted tertiary institution students, ₦100,000 bursary grants for 100 students currently in tertiary institutions, and the presentation of brand-new laptops to first-class graduates in recognition of academic excellence.
Heads of Departments and Supervisors equally highlighted programmes and projects implemented across various sectors, further showcasing the council’s commitment to infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth development and community welfare.
At the conclusion of the visit, the committee reaffirmed its satisfaction with the performance of the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government while encouraging the council to pursue continuous improvement. Members also assured the council of the Lagos State Government’s support where necessary and advised the administration to strengthen its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) drive to complement ongoing developmental efforts.
