LGA CHAIRMAN LEADS REINTRODUCED ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION EXERCISE, URGES RESIDENTS TO EMBRACE CLEANLINESS

June 16, 2026

In compliance with the directive of the Lagos State Government, the Executive Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Honourable Olalekan Olu Akindipe, on Saturday, April 25, 2026, led other council functionaries in the reintroduced Environmental Sanitation Exercise.

The exercise commenced at the Council Secretariat and covered major areas including Boundary, Coconut, Berger Express, Oto Wharf, and other communities within the Local Government.

Demonstrating his commitment to the exercise, Hon. Akindipe procured nine compactors, one for each ward in the Local Government Area. He also directed all Honourable Councillors and Supervisors to remain in their respective wards to monitor the exercise and ensure full compliance.

Hon. Akindipe expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance by residents, noting that households turned out en masse to clean their surroundings. He emphasized that maintaining a clean environment helps prevent diseases, reduces flooding, and enhances the overall quality of life.

Although law enforcement agents were on ground, no arrests were made due to the impressive level of compliance recorded across the LGA.

The Executive Chairman further encouraged residents to sustain the practice of regular environmental sanitation beyond the designated exercise days.

The reintroduced Environmental Sanitation Exercise will be held monthly, on the last Saturday of every month, between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

“We will not wait until the last Saturday of the month to clean our environment. Cleanliness in Ajegunle must become a daily culture,” the Chairman concluded.
