HON. AKINDIPE MARKS ONE YEAR IN OFFICE, SETS NEW STANDARD IN LOCAL GOVERNANCE

The Executive Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Hon. Olalekan Olu Akindipe, has marked his first year in office with the commissioning of major infrastructural projects and the empowerment of thousands of residents, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to impactful grassroots governance.

The grand finale of the activities commemorating the Chairman’s one-year anniversary in office was held on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, and attracted dignitaries from the state and federal levels, traditional rulers, political leaders, stakeholders, residents and members of staff of the Local Government.

A major highlight of the celebration was the first commissioning of the day, the newly completed Oluwa Street, performed by the incoming Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Damilola Sanayon, Her presence and participation in the commissioning added significance to the occasion and underscored the importance of the project to residents of the community.

Following the commissioning of Oluwa Street, Hon. Akindipe commissioned several other completed projects across the Local Government, including:

  • Maracana Footbridge
  • Ajasa Motorable Bridge
  • Mokoya Motorable Bridge
  • Oluwa Nursery and Primary School
  • Umeriro Street
  • Three solar-powered boreholes in Wards B, H and I

The administration also empowered thousands of residents through cash grants and the distribution of various equipment, enabling beneficiaries to establish or strengthen small-scale businesses and improve their livelihoods.

Within one year of assuming office, the administration has implemented interventions across critical sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, environmental sanitation, youth development, women development, social welfare and human capital development.

Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Akindipe said he assumed office prepared and focused, with a clear determination to deliver projects and programmes that would have a direct and meaningful impact on the people.

«“Today is not merely a celebration of one year in office. It is an opportunity to reflect on the journey so far, appreciate the progress recorded, recognise the collective efforts behind these achievements and renew our commitment to the development of our Local Government,” he said.»

The Chairman assured residents that his administration would continue to embark on projects and programmes that would improve the quality of life of the people and contribute to sustainable development across Ajeromi-Ifelodun.

He expressed appreciation to the residents for their support, prayers and cooperation, stressing that their continued partnership remained essential to achieving greater development.

«“To the good people of Ajeromi-Ifelodun, I say one year is just the beginning. With your continued support, prayers and partnership, we shall take our Local Government to greater heights,” the Chairman added.»

Hon. Akindipe also appreciated the Legislative Arm of the Local Government, the Council Management and the entire staff for their contributions to the achievements recorded by the administration.

He further acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and expressed appreciation to His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for the Renewed Hope Agenda and its focus on development at all levels of government.

Speaking at the well-attended ceremony, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, former Minister of State for Defence and former Senator representing Lagos Central, commended the Chairman for his performance and urged residents to continue supporting the government.

Prince Rabiu Oluwa, a member of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), applauded the Chairman’s achievements and expressed confidence in his administration.

The Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, commended Hon. Akindipe and encouraged him to sustain the pace of development.

HRM Alayeluwa Oba Moruf Oyekunle Atanda Oluwa, the Olu of Iwa and Apapa Kingdom, prayed for the Chairman and pledged continued support for the administration.

The immediate past Chairman of the Council, Hon. Fatai Adekunle Ayoola, also commended the achievements recorded by the present administration and wished the Chairman greater success in the years ahead.

The beneficiaries of the empowerment programme expressed appreciation to the Chairman, noting that the financial assistance and equipment would provide them with opportunities to start, expand and sustain their businesses.
