Ounje Ajeromi food support initiative — How Ajeromi-Ifelodun Began the week with Purpose.

The Office of the Executive Chairman, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, today recorded yet another landmark day of people-focused governance, as strategic interventions across social welfare, sports development and fiscal leadership were successfully executed.

The day commenced with the continuation of the Ounje Ajeromi food support initiative, a flagship social intervention of the present administration aimed at cushioning economic pressures and strengthening household food security across the local government.
Today’s distribution covered Alayabiagba Community, Aiyetoro Community and Ajegunle Community, where 200 households per community benefited, making a total of 600 households supported with 10kg bags of rice on Day One.

This distribution represents three wards, with assurances that all nine wards of Ajeromi-Ifelodun will be covered. Three additional wards will benefit tomorrow, while the remaining three wards will be reached the following day. In line with the Chairman’s commitment to inclusive governance, this month’s edition of Ounje Ajeromi is targeted at 5,000 households, reinforcing the administration’s resolve that governance must be felt at the grassroots.

In the spirit of community engagement and social cohesion, the Executive Chairman later participated in the ongoing chairman’s Indoor Games, where he actively engaged in Draught, Ludo, Scrabble and Ayo. Addressing participants, the Chairman encouraged them to embrace the true spirit of Christmas—unity, peace and togetherness—while reaffirming his passion for sports as a tool for youth engagement and social development.
He announced that the chairman’s Indoor Games will not be a one-off event but will now hold multiple times within the year, reflecting his administration’s broader commitment to sports development and talent discovery. The grand finals of the various categories will take place tomorrow, with cash prizes exceeding ₦2 million to be won across all games.

The day was capped with a major governance milestone as the Executive Chairman signed into law the ₦16.5 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill, marking the formal commencement of the 2026 fiscal year. The budget signing was carried out in the presence of key stakeholders in the legislative and executive arms of the local government, including the Leader of the House, Hon. Samson Olayinka, the Legislative House Clerk, the nine sitting Councillors, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Bola Anite-Ugbo, the Council Manager, Mr. Babatunde Rahman, and the Council Treasurer.

The signing underscores a shared commitment between the executive and legislative arms to responsible budgeting, transparency and accelerated development, with the 2026 budget positioned as a strategic instrument to deepen infrastructural growth, social services delivery and economic empowerment across Ajeromi-Ifelodun.

Indeed, it was a powerful and purposeful way to begin the week—one that reflects an administration driven by compassion, participation and prudent leadership, firmly focused on delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the people.
